What is bioavailable curcumin?

It has been known for hundreds of years that turmeric delivers a wealth of health benefits. Turmeric contains a compound called curcumin; it is, in fact, the most active compound of turmeric offering numerous benefits on overall health and in improving the quality of life. Curcumin is considered one of the most powerful botanical extracts in the world today. Scientists from across the world have researched this botanical extensively and placed it at the top of all botanicals with healing properties. Curcumin has been known to have a huge positive impact on health — in fighting chronic ailments such as arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease amongst others.

Curcumin has proven antioxidant, anti-inflammatory properties but its drawback lies in its poor bioavailability; in other words, its effectiveness is limited due to its poor absorption into the blood. In scientific terms, this means it has limited bioavailability. When curcumin is made highly absorbable, its benefits can be made available to the body, preparing it to fight inflammatory, chronic conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, and improve the overall immune system of the body. A super absorbable form of curcumin amplifies and potentiates curcumin’s effectiveness in treating diseases.

In recent years, scientists have been working on addressing the problem of poor absorption of curcumin. Extracting the curcumin from the turmeric rhizomes is a complex process. A super absorbable (bioavailable form of curcumin) is the result of a superior extraction process. A state-of-the-art extraction process produces high-quality curcumin standardized to 95 percent curcuminoid complex.

Several versions of bioavailable curcumin are manufactured but it is important to source from a company that promises quality.

The bioavailability of curcumin can be enhanced when many of the components of the raw turmeric which traditionally are removed during the extraction process are reintroduced back into the product. The outcome of this reintroduction of the essential oil of turmeric has resulted in a bioavailable curcumin, which means curcumin that is seven times more bioavailable than the 95% extract and hence more effective.

This enhancement results in one 400 mg capsule having the same effectiveness as over 2,700 mg of the standard 95% curcumin extract.

Several studies have proven the enhanced effectiveness of bioavailable curcumin on arthritis, diabetes, depression, Alzheimer’s disease and all diseases that have a foundation in inflammation, and in improving overall body immunity.
