The upcoming marijuana legalization in Alberta scheduled for 2018 has made more people aware of the benefits of medical and recreational marijuana use. That’s probably why recreational marijuana seems to have gained more ground in recent years. Want to give it a try? Here are a few pointers to keep in mind when the time comes around:
Your age will matter
If you’re under 21 years of age, you won’t be able to get your own share of those edibles after marijuana is legalized in 2018. Reputable sources – such as Tamarack Dispensaries – will only cater to buyers 21 years old and above. If you’re older than 21 years of age, then you will make the cut!
The location will matter
Those in Colorado, Oregon, and Washington as well as in Alaska can already purchase these edibles. However, not all states have dispensaries, though, so you’ll need to check before you purchase any, says CNN. That’s because, despite the scheduled marijuana legalization in Alberta which will occur in 2018, plenty of states in the U.S. are still working out rules for legalizing marijuana – from zoning to tax laws. That’s why even when recreational use in Maine, California, Nevada, and Massachusetts has been given the green light, there are still no dispensaries in sight for local buyers. Instead, they need to put in orders to dispensaries in other states. Growing demand, though, seems to indicate this won’t be the case for long – especially when one considers the exponential growth in demand for medical cannabis.
No crossing state lines
Going from one state to another? You could end up running into problems if you bring along a bag of weed or marijuana edibles for sale even if recreational marijuana is legal in both states. Don’t like the thought of being charged with a federal offense? Leave the weed at home. You will not be able to mail it or bring it on a plane either so keep that in mind if you plan to add your marijuana stash to your luggage.
Don’t do it in public
Smoking weed in public is still illegal even in states where cannabis is legal. That’s why it’s better to keep those sessions at home where you won’t have to run into trouble if you decide to get high.
Don’t get high and drive
It’s illegal to get behind the wheel and drive when you’re high. It works the same way like driving under the influence. You could easily get charged with a crime. Therefore, it is best to stay to stay out of the road until the effects wear out.
