It is safe for you to get a PET scan. However, you will be exposed to a small amount of radiation. Your kidneys will likely flush out the radiation after 24 hours. However, if you are nursing or pregnant, then you will need to let your technician know that.
What to Expect During the Test?
You will have electrodes placed on different areas of your body. You will also have an IV injected into your arm. You will lie on a table as the scan is taken. Multiple images will be taken, and you can expect the treatment to last for a few hours.
What to Do After Your Test
You do not have to do anything special after you get a PET scan. However, you will have to drink a lot of water to flush out the tracers.
